Timing, Smoothness and Rhythm Details

Timing
The golf swing consists of four distinct segments which comprise: Backswing, Pause and Reversal, Power-Stroke and Follow Through.  The Golf Dynamics Pro uniquely measures and reports numerically the absolute time duration of each of these four swing segments separately.  In addition, a graphical characterization of the entire swing time line is provided with each swing segment transitions points shown.  Also shown on the graphical swing time line are the 3 dimensional acceleration forces experienced by the club head during the entire swing.

Swing Smoothness
Swing smoothness is a characterization of how smoothly forces are translated from the body, arms, and wrists through the shaft and finally to the club head. Swing smoothness is characterized graphically for both the Back-Swing swing segment and the Pause and Reversal swing segment. An optimal swing will minimize abrupt forces that can cause the club head to uncontrollable wobble at the end of the shaft or also indicate if a shaft is not stiff enough for the strength of the golfer’s swing style. The lines on the graph represent the end result forces experience at the club head in a 2 dimensional plane that is perpendicular to the shaft (axis orientation show in image).

Back Swing Smoothness
Pause and Reversal Smoothness

Tempo and Rhythm Profile
Tempo is defined as the time duration from the start of the backswing to the completion of the power stoke at maximum club head velocity. The Rhythm Profile characterizes the breakdown of what percentage of Total Tempo time is used in each of the three swing segments that make up total tempo. The three swing segments are: back-swing, pause and reversal, and power-stoke.  Both numeric and graphical representation are presented.

Dynamics Club Head Orientation and Motion

Club Head Velocity
Club head velocity is the speed in
MPH (Mile Per Hour)  of the club as it travels on the club head path. Maximum club head velocity is reported numerically and dynamic club head velocity is provided with time line graph of velocity form mid down-stroke through mid follow-through swing segments. Club head velocity along with timing and rhythm feedback are essential for optimizing your swing style for power. To learn more Click Here.

Club Face Angle
Club face angle is the angle the club face makes with respect to the travel path of the club head and is one of the most important metrics when it comes to hitting the ball strait. Club face angle at maximum velocity is reported numerically and dynamic club face angle results are provided graphically from mid way through the power stroke to mid way through follow-through.

Club Head Acceleration/Deceleration/Wrist Release
Club head spatial acceleration is the characterization of the club head movement acceleration experienced along the travel club head travel path and is reported in “g” (gravitational units). Peak club head acceleration is reported numerically and dynamics club head acceleration results are provided graphically from mid way through the power stroke to mid way through follow-through.  Club Head maximum acceleration correlates to where in the power-stroke that wrist release occurs.

Relationships across Club Head Orientation and Motion Metrics
The Golf Dynamics Pro also offers the ability to overlay different graphs on the same time line to view how the dynamics relate to one another. Below is a graph including dynamic velocity, club face angle and club head acceleration.

Shaft Actions & Wrist Actions

Toe Down Angle
The toe down angle is defined as the amount that the toe of the club head rotates downward due to the centrifugal forces acting on the club head’s center of gravity and is reported in degrees. Toe down maximum angle is reported numerically and occurs at club head maximum velocity. Dynamic toe down angle is provided graphically from mid way through the power stroke to mid way through follow-through.

Shaft Flex Lag/Lead Angle
Shaft Flex is a measure of the shaft bending (or the shaft flex) in the direction of, or opposite to, the club head travel path. Shaft flex results are provided from midway through the power-stroke to the end of the power stroke. Shaft flex lag-lead angle is caused by forces applied at the grip and the inertial forces experienced by the club head.

Wrist release Unwind Rate
Wrist cock is a measure of the angle your club shaft in relation to your strait arm. The wrist cock unwind rate and is defined as the angular rate of change of the wrist cock angle and is reported in degrees/sec.

Golf Dynamics Pro – User Interface

Golf Dynamics Pro Swing Optimization Window
The software user interface includes both numerical and graphical results for the feedback metrics listed in the table above.  The Swing Optimization Window has two main sections: a numerical section which provides key values for pertinent information that can take place in different parts of the swing, such as maximum velocity and maximum club head acceleration and an interactive graphics section which allows you view the dynamics nature of a selected swing metric.

Graphical Section of User Interface

The Graphical Section of the Golf Dynamics Pro User Interface allows you to select which metric to display in the graphics window. It also allows you to overlap different metrics on the same time line for a given swing so you can see they relate to one another.
